RE: [Marxism] Re: SA, the SWP and Solidarity
Two brief points:
1) Adam's post was a balanced, refreshing restatement of the virtues of a
Leninist (no quotes) organization.
2) I could (and no doubt will at some point) take on a number of Joaquin's
defense of Solidarity's anti-Leninist centrism, but will limit myself to the
most important: its labor work.
I could also cite hundreds of inspiring examples of single-Local
accomplishments like the one he does (and I would bet good money I know which
union he's talking about because it's the only one, for lack of a Leninist
strategy, they've been able to get a foothold in).
But what has Solidarity contributed, for instance, to the admittedly modest
movement around first the Million Worker March and then the New Unity
Partnership? Nothing. Zip. Bupkis.
Look at the article in the current Labor Notes on the NUP. No critique, no
alternative program, no suggestion for actions. Just "here's the programs of
the bureaucrats, isn't this interesting." And what have Solidarity labor cadres
done in a coordinated way nationally to take advantage of MWM, NUP, struggles
in airlines or grocery, Social Security, the Labor Party, etc., etc., etc.? One
thing and one thing only: build your rank-and-file caucus.
That's not seeking to lead, and it's certainly not trying to get to a point
where you can lead a working-class movement, much less a revolution.
That's do-your-own-thing centrism.
