[Marxism] Recent events in Ireland.
A chairde,
On 26th December last, £26.5 million was stolen from the Northern Bank
in Belfast. It was a largest robbery ever conducted in Ireland (or
indeed in Britain). The British authorities and the Irish state
authorities have both pinned the blame on the Provisional IRA and used
this as a smear to assault the Peace Process and Sinn Fein's central
place in it. No evidence has been provided to substantiate the claim
only the word of the chief constable of Britain's police force in
Ireland, the PSNI. The hypocrisy of parties such as Fianna Fail and the
Democratic Unionists joining a chorus with the British government
decrying Irish Republicans for alleged robbing banks is heinous given
their own associations with corporate crime and in underpinning
continued inequality and sectarian division in our country. Fianna Fail
is clearly running scared of Sinn Fein's continuous growth in the Free
State and are once again putting their narrow political interests above
the interests of the Irish people's struggle for national liberation.
There can only be one answer to this attempt to demonise Sinn Fein and
that is to ensure that our politics is brought to the people with
greater impetus. This means not only to achieve greater successes in
upcoming elections but to widen our political engagement involving
greater numbers of people and reaching out to them in their demands for
social and economic justice.
I am amused to see local ultraleftists repeating Trotsky's line of
opposition to expropriations (even in this unsubstantiated case). This
political liberalism in the advancement of serious revolution is
indicative of their petty-bourgeois orientation. Lenin was clear on the
need for 'exes' including the massive Tiflis robbery which netted over
340,000 rubles in 1907. Allegedly, Stalin was involved in the operation.
I am posting a few articles in full (given demands for full articles
which I agree with) as I feel that this is quite an important
development and these give a good indication of the feelings of Irish
republican leadership at this time.
Le meas,
DoC.
