RE: [Marxism] 1983 open letter from SA to the SWP

I think the assumption of acpollack2@xxxxxxxx is the alleged "centrist
character" of Solidarity. The implied criticism is the absence of
"sensible Leninist discipline." In the absence of a unifying political
focus imposed by the world around us, this seems to me nothing but an
artificial organizational solution to a political issue.

My reasons for not being a member of Solidarity at this point are quite
straightforward. We don't have a local branch at this point. If we
did, it would still be a bad solution personally and politically for me
to attempt to be a middle aged substitute for a dozen younger activists.
In the end, there needs to be an organization large enough to have a
niche for someone like me and what I do.

All of this ultimately has to do with the absence of a mass
radicalization and not the shortcomings of Solidarity. If it attempted
to impose more discipline on itself without reference to this contextual
matter, what would make it any different than the usual run-of-the-mill
religious organization?

The last thing the world needs is another International Proletarian
Caucus of Labor Leagues (Marxist-Leninist-Vegetarian).

Solidarity!
Mark L.
