[Marxism] FORUM TO CELEBRATE DR. KING'S ANTI-WAR LEGACY

FORUM TO CELEBRATE DR. KING'S ANTI-WAR LEGACY: WAR

-- WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? FROM VIETNAM TO IRAQ

The Shrines of the Black Madonna of the Pan African
Orthodox Christian Church will present "A Celebration
of the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: War --
What Is It Good For? From Vietnam to Iraq," a free
program on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at 3:00 p. m., at
the Akwaaba Community Center, 8045 Second Ave., at
Seward, Detroit.

Detroit City Council member Jo Ann Watson, political
commentator and activist Abayomi Azikiwe and others
will address the program. Bring your conscience and
your courage and hear them talk and teach about:

* Dr. King's opposition in 1967-68 to America's
undeclared war in Vietnam and its devastating domestic
consequences.

* The cost of the current U. S. wars in Afghanistan
and Iraq and their impact upon those peoples and our
communities.

* The backdoor "undraft" and our youth.

* Our responsibility to act.

* "Not One Damn Dime Day," a 24-hour national
boycott of all forms of consumer spending on
Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, to remind our religious and
political leaders of their moral responsibility to end
the war in Iraq and bring our troops home.

Historian Paul Lee will introduce rare video- and
audiotapes of Dr. King explaining how the hopes for
social and economic justice raised by President Lyndon
B. Johnson's "Great Society" programs were shot down
in the jungles of Southeast Asia.

A free list of suggested sources for further study
will be available and books and recordings by Dr. King
will be on sale. Refreshments will be served.

For more information, call the Akwaaba Community

Center: (313) 871-2428.

NOTE: No photographic, audio or electronic recording
devices will be allowed.
