[Marxism] Iraqi ethnographic map
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/middle_east_and_asia/iraq_ethno_2003.jpg
The URL above leads to a ethnographic map of Iraq associated with the
website Baghdad Burning. It will be of value to people trying to figure out
what "Sunni areas" vs other parts of Iraqq constitute. Bush's statement that
14 out of 18 provinces are free from problems that might affect voting,
even if it is true, ignores the fact that those 4 provinces constitute 50%
of Iraq's provinces. But if Sunnis constitute no more than 20% of Iraq's
population, then the other 30% affected must be Shia and Kurds. A glance at
the map shows the reality: there are large parts of Iraq that are pretty
much mixtures of everyone. This includes Baghdad.
There are other interesting maps found by following the "Today in Iraq" link
from the Baghdad Burning site. That's Today in Iraq, not the similarly named
Iraq Today.
