[Marxism] Stan Goff comments

Hi Dayne,

I'm trying my best - and failing - to finish a book, so I am in drop-out
mode. Short version on my argument is that US taxpayers are not paying
for the war. Europeans and Japanese and Chinese are. Michael Hudson
has written extensively on this. This idea of peace dividends and such
utterly fails to comprehend a monetary reality that I had great
difficulty understanding at first - but was educated through the a-list
and other places. Lou P is very familiar with those discussions. I am
unconvinced that we can explain our point of view if we don't take the
trouble to explain what money actually is and how it actually works in
the world. Even if that weren't true, we have been trying this slogan
out for a while and it doesn't gain any traction. In any case, I'm glad
my provocations provoked, and when I get my head above water I am keen
to check the discussions out. I don't have any answers any more than
anyone else, but I'm feeling some urgency these days to at least start
the conversation about where we go next. And having been influenced by
strategic theorists who say that we change our circumstances the minute
we act upon them, I am inclined to say do something however imperfect to
interrupt inertia, then reassess frequently. We have to find ways to
get out in front of developments, and not simply respond with all the
old formulae. For myself, that looks like an ideological struggle right
now. We put our analysis out there, hard, and when things develop in
six months, we can show people which ideas stood the test of time... and
test our own assumptions.

Gotta get back to my little cave of "rape, the liberal state, and the
military"... today's preoccupation.

You are welcome to post this if you like.

Happy New Year to you and all the folks at marxmail.

Stan

Hello Stan Goff,
one section of your article "A Period for Pedagogy" which is
posted at the Counterpunch site became a topic of discussion on the
Marxmail.org list. in part of his latest message, Rohan suggested that
you should be made aware of our discussion.
below the relevant part of Rohan's message is my comment on that
section of your article.
in solidarity, Dayne Goodwin
