Money Makin' To the Beat We Disco Breakin' (was Re: [Marxism] Stan Goff and "economism"

Money is neither a static nor a material value

My understanding is that Marx said (paper) money symbolically represents
surplus value (ie material value).

As I understand it, that was the origin of money, an abstraction to provide
for barter.

But under capitalism money itself became a commodity, and like all
commodities, its price has little to do with its value.

Goff is again semantically incorrect, it is the price of money, not its
value, but his point is obvious (and marxist): Money is a commodity, not an
instrument of production or a raw material.

I'll admit Das Kapital is not my strong point, but this is how I intepret
the matter of money, and this is obviously what Goff "vulgarly" called
"value".

Please less stop going into sophistry and tangents, the guy is not a
scholar, but something more important, a communist. Battles over semantics
only serve to obscure the debate he raises, which is a very necessary one.
