I spent time there in the sixties. They had mass unemployment, which was
partly mopped up by Yugoslavs becoming "guest workers" in West Germany.
Remittances from West Germany in turn helped prop up "socialism".

I wonder why they didn't go to "socialist" East Germany? Rhetorical
question -- we all know the answer, don't we :-)
