[Marxism] blaming imperialism on Rumsfeld

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a.. Re: the below. You, Steve, you and your friends, have a different problem
from the one you list.
You cannot distinguish between those leftists who think US imperialist policy
is an accident and those leftists who think US
imperialist pollcy reflects the needs of the rulers. You and your friends also
cannot distinguish between whispering your opposition to the war and organizing
against the war.
You and your friends have another problem too, being you actually think
there is a class difference between a "leftist" and a those in the "workers
movement".
Stan Smith

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Numerous liberals and leftists have theorized that US imperialist policy
under Bush, Rumsfeld, etc. has been an accident. Individual bunglers with
personal vendettas, rude manners and a taste for war have taken over the
Defense Department and created a whole host of problems "we" wouldn't have
had others been at the helm. On the other hand, others in the workers
movement, including myself, argue that the imperialist policies of Bush are
not a result of accident, but rather of necessity, reflecting short and
long term material and political needs of the US ruling class.

The op-ed article in today's NY Times by Maureen Dowd printed below is an
example of the theory that Bush and Rumsfeld imperialist policies are
unfortunate accidents. Note the illusions in imperialism and wishful
thinking that this satirical article reveals, subtitled by the editors
"What the world would have been like if Donald Rumsfeld had never been born."
