[Marxism] Abu Ghraib courts martial: where and why
Although the 372nd Military Police Company, which was nominally in
charge of Abu Ghraib, was based in Cresaptown, Maryland, and all of the
defendants are reservists and from East Coast, the courts martial will
be held at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Pvt. Lynndie England's case was formally begun at Ft. Bragg, North
Carolina, and her trial was scheduled for January 2005. However,
yesterday (12-10-04) AP News reported that her trial was being moved to
Ft. Hood, Texas: "The move to Texas is being made to bring together
several cases stemming from the prisoner abuse scandal, including those
of England, Spc. Charles Graner, Sgt. Javal Davis, and Spc. Sabrina
Harman, the Army said in a statement."
Lynndie England - West Virginia
Charles Graner - Pennsylvania
Jeremy C. Sivits - Pennsylvania (1-year sentence, agreed to be a
witness against others)
Javal Davis - New Jersey
Sabrina Harman - Virginia
Ivan Frederick - Virginia (8 year sentence)
Megan Ambuhl - Virginia (rcvd a Special Courts Martial, minor role and
minor punishment)
The Military Police Company, all of the defendants, all of the
potential witnesses including their commanding general, all of their
supporting family members, and the major media are all based on the
East Coast.
Which is, of course, why the cases are being consolidated at Ft. Hood,
Texas (Killeen, Texas).
