Except for the times he forgets to use it, Fred Feldman solves this problem
by using a free utility as indicated in one of his posts today:

This email was cleaned by emailStripper, available for free from
http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm

Myself, I use a Word macro that substitutes "&&" for "^p^p" (in other
words, two hard returns in a row) and then changes all remaining "^p's" to
space. Finally the "&&" is replaced with "^p^p". This will leave you with
properly formatted paragraphs separated by a blank line.
