[Marxism] Re: flame wars revisited
M. Junaid Alam responded to "Rev. Jerry" this way:
I think you got your priorities wrong. What happened was I posted a link
to a
Department of Defense document that said Arabs and Muslims resent
American foreign
policy, not American values. Then this other character uses this as a
springboard
for a tangent about "noxious Islam" and describes the politics of my
post as one of
"tailing Mullahs" and all kinds of other nonsense.
So how does that completely escape you, how do you skip over all that
and then single
out my response to his ignorant drivel? How indeed, *Reverend* Jerry...
Now the last time I checked, "Rachel" was generally a female name.
Okay, maybe I'm stereotyping. But I think the reference to "HIS"
"ignorant drivel" is wrong.
Now, as I understand Flame War etiquette, this entitles RW Rainey to one
free flame against Junaid as a "SEXIST PIG FROM HELL!!!!" I mean, fair
is fair. Go, Rachel!
People do not have to be cleared by Alam before participating in the
list. Nor do they have to submit frequently enough to become well known
to him. So the reference to "this character" and "his" presumably
idiotic comments really contribute nothing to anyone's knowledge or
understanding unless all M. Junaid Alam wants to make understood is the
message of the Incredible Hulk on the Tv show: "Don't make me angry.
You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." (My personal favorite line from
all of TV.) Don't submit anything that would make Junaid mad for
Terrible Is His Vengeance.
Couldn't you at least explain why it makes you so mad? Couldn't you at
least try to explain why she shouldn't hold that view? After all, the
position she is expressing is no different than the one held by several
Iraqi Communist Parties. It is the approach of a fair number of
leftists in the US and other countries (not all of them white, by any
means) to the events in Iraq. Should we try to debate with them or to
scare them away from the list, or make the lurkers because of what may
be the results of posting your bad opinions? Frankly are we presenting
ourselves as just an SWP or PLP or whatever with BETTER POLITICS to
intimidate people into supporting?
Frankly, some of your comments about industrial workers and trade unions
irritate me about as much. They hit me where I have lived for many
years. But I think I try to explain my feelings even if I fail to hide
them.
If people with "outsider" views (I'm not referring to straight up
liberals or anticommunists) join the list and post, should we feel
proud of driving them away? I have raised this question before re other
matters (including a supporter of the SWP who started posting and was
relentlessly driven off the list -- personally I'm glad that Gabosch has
a thicker skin, but is it a total accident that the one who backed away
was female?)
In any case, prepare for your assigned punishment, YOU SEXIST PIG FROM
HELL! You...you...you....CHARACTER!

P.s. Yes, the French did attack civilians,French and Algerian, claiming
to be the FLN. Only, where Algerians were concerned, the FLN tended to
use assassination, whereas the French (especially the OAS) used
indiscriminate bombings against both groups and claimed credit in the
name of the FLN! And yes, I am sure that the same sort of thing is
happening in Iraq.
