[Marxism] Discussion is not about the SWP
The discussion over The Militant is not primarily about the SWP or
about Steve or SWP lurkers (as I was for several months). It is about
the colonial and semi-colonial revolution and how revolutionists
explain it, defend it, and publicize it.
It has included strategy and tactics in the antiwar movement here and
in England. It has occasioned Fred Feldman's recent post on some
setbacks for the Iraqis in attempt of the U.S. to divide the resistance
and in the failure of the antiwar movement in NYC to call for
withdrawal as compared to fighting against Bush's war--reminiscent to
me of the argument over the London demo.
It is about how you write about the colonial revolution when it is
headed by non-Marxist and even reprehensible figures--as are many, if
not most, of them.
To the extent that it is about the SWP, I hope that it will induce some
of its supporters to think more deeply about its whole trajectory and
their lives over the past 20 years. There are better things that they
could be doing.
Brian Shannon
