Exactly. As Lula's trade overtures with China are nothing more than that,
trading-ops that will strenghten the most reactionary forces in the
Brazilian Body Politic - namely landowners slashing and burning the Amazon
(and practising debt slavery in the process) in order to sell soybeans to
China.
There's now generalized awareness in Brazil, since the dismissal of
(bourgeois) nationalist Carlos Lessa from the presidency of state-owned
Bank of National Economic Development - where he was trying to pursue a
policy of somehow reverting Cardoso's privatization of strategic assets and
estimulating high-tech, cutting edge industies - and Lula's policy of
"anything goes" parliamentary coalitions coupled to receiving the most
unsavoury figures into his ministry, that the Lula Government as a
progressive force is, to all purposes, quite _dead_.There's no second
opinion about that , which leaves us with the task of simply recreating a
meaningful Left in Brazil almost from scratch.
