Though the coverage in THE MILITANT gives a ritualistic
call for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, if you
look carefully at the coverage in the paper the emphasis
is clear and obvious. It stresses the numerous positive
things which the US occupyiers are claiming to accomplish,
while at the same time not mentioning or belittling what
the resistance forces are accomplishing.

In the minds of the editors of THE MILITANT, they perhaps
may think they are opponents of the US war and occupation,
but the direction, the emphasis, the tone and in the end,
the general orientation of the coverage gives readers a
quite different orientation.

Look at the current issue of THE MILITANT. (Here is the
link to the index page below.) THE MILITANT reports with
a remarkable level of enthusiasm, such matters as how
successful the Bush administration was in BLOCKING some
changes in the US government's espionage apparatuses.
All this while top members of that very establishment
are resigning left and right in disagreement with the
evident housekeeping with the Bush forces are conducting.

Also look at the article headlined "Washington hosts
military exercise in Caribbean on navy 'interdiction'"

All of these articles have tone quite similar to their
enthusiastic reporting from Fallujah. I am not saying
these things. Read them for yourselves.

Luko: I'm glad you're now beginning to see these things
and are pointing them out. It's not some obsession on
the part of those of us who've been saying these kinds
of things since THE MILITANT began being on the other
side of the barricades during the Elian struggle. The
tone, emphasis and direction of THE MILITANT isn't any
longer anti-war. This doesn't prevent them from running
a good article from time to time, like the one about
attorney Lynne Steward.
