I agree with this. All socialist groups, no matter how sectarian, play a
useful role by disseminating pamphlets, leaflets and books that analyze
capitalism and call for the need for socialism. I myself first heard
about socialism from a fellow named Nathan Pressman who used to stay at
a bungalow colony in the Catskills in the 1950s each summer. As a member
of the Socialist Labor Party, Nathan would write long letters to the
Republican Watchman, our local newspaper (it was a Democratic newspaper
that set itself up as a "watchman" of the Republicans.) I first heard
about the need for socialism from him when I was 12 years old. Many
students and workers first hear about socialism from such groups.
Of course, to make a socialist revolution takes an entirely different
type of organization.
