about [Marxism] Karl Marx pilgrims lead communists back from oblivion
on the effort for a FDJ revival in Germany:
O> Now the party estimates it has about 150 fully paid-up members and
O> claims they are again on the march, with branches in Bremen,
O> Frankfurt, and Munich, in addition to its groups in the
O> traditional heartland of the former East Germany.
The traditional heartland for this "FDJ" is Munich, in Bavaria,
i.e. West Germany, as the youth branch of the so-called "Arbeiterbund
für den Wiederaufbau der KPD" or "Workers League for the
reconstruction of the KPD", a stalinist group which had emerged in the
early 1970ies out of the radical students movement.
This group had styled itself according to the line of the SED/KPD
of the early 1950ies, even picking up the nationalist stance the
German stalinists had trying to forge a "national front" against
colonization of West Germany by the US-imnperialists together with
rightist former Wehrmacht officers and the like.
Nowadays they excell in identifying the enemy at home, which is
honorable compared to other leftist groups, but they go to strange
extremes when they claim that the war against Jugoslavia over Kosovo
was actually initiated by German imoerialism which manipulated the USA
into taking part in that attack.
It is very good, that this Arbeiterbund and its FDJ are supporting
and defending Cuba, and did a lot to mobilize for the World Youth
Festival there some years ago, but they also were really disappointed
that everybody could take part in that festival as opposed to former
occurences of the same where the participants were carefully screened
by some organizing committee, keeping out the politically deviants.
They don't see all the contradictions in the demise of the
stalinist burocratic rule in the GDR and the reunification, claiming
the the GDR was overrun by a West German offensive, ignoring that the
Berlin Wall was not crushed by a tank attack from the West, but opened
by a mass mobilization from the East; that the tearing down of the
border and the reunification was a necessary historical progress, even
if the capitalist and their state maintained the upper hand in the
unified state.
The way forward in Germany is not a restoration of the GDR and the
renewed division of the country, but building a fighting unity for
workers interests in _all_ parts of the country.
I see this Arbeiterbund and its FDJ as being rather an obstacle to
such progress.
