The mainstream US media, and politicians, keep comparing the upcoming (if they
do occur) elections in Iraq with those in El Salvador, late 80's or early 90's.
The claim is the the armed resistance, in El Salvador engaged in armed actions
to prevent the elections, "but the population of El Salvador defied the
resistance, and turned out in record numbers to vote". During that time, I had
kind of dropped out of things, so to speak. What acturally DID happen during
the elections in El Salvador, and were these "fair" elections? Anyone feel free
to answer, on or off list. Thank you.
