[Marxism] Short History of NYC Asian American Activism

The Hidden History of Asian American Activism in New York City

By Andrew Hsiao, March 2004

So much Asian Pacific American history has been made on the West
Coast--the very moniker APA is a nod to the Pacific Rim origins of our
communities--that we're apt sometimes to slight the role the East Coast
has played in the making of APA history.

This goes for those moments when we recall the tragedies that have
beset Asians in America, as with the anti-Asian riots of the 19th
century and the Japanese American internment. But it also goes for our
remembrance of Asian American activists--rebels and reformers who
fought for APA rights and recognition.

Here is the still-largely-unknown story of Asian activists in New York
City, who have been raising hell in America's largest city for 125
years.
