The Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice
(MECAWI) Calls for a Mass Demonstration to Halt the Siege of
Fallujah and Other Iraqi Cities

On Friday November 19, people throughout metropolitan Detroit
are asked to participate in a demonstration against the
horrendous crimes committed by the United States military in
Fallujah and throughout Iraq.

Hundreds of Iraqi civilians have been killed along with the
destruction of the historic city of Fallujah, where the
military has reported that at least 40 American soldiers have
died in the fighting and over 200 have been wounded since
November 8. Overall, the month of November so far has been
one of the deadliest since the invasion, with nearly 100 U.S.
soldiers killed and hundreds of others wounded and injured.

The American electorate did not provide the Bush
administration with a mandate for permanent war. We must
stand up and let our voices be heard. Only the people can
stop the war and bring the troops home now.

Join the peace and justice community in a public display of
outrage over what is being done in our name. We will gather
at 4:00 p.m. at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel entrance on
Jefferson at Randolph in Downtown Detroit. Be there and speak
truth to power.

Solidarity Anti-War Actions in Windsor-Ontario, Canada

At last night's meeting, the Windsor Peace Coalition
discussed the current state of affairs in occupied Iraq as
well as other places where the peoples' struggles to assert
their independence are under brutal assault, and where truth
is turned on its head by the REAL perpetrators of terrorism
to portray those defending their homeland and innocent
civilians as insurgents that must be rooted out of their own
homes and cities by the foreign invaders.

We resolved after this discussion that our response to a
second term of the George W. Bush regime would be to step up
our work, expand our connections with others in Canada, the
U.S. and around the world who are waging the same fight
against aggressive war, occupation and attacks on the rights
and dignity of the peoples as our contribution to
strengthening the worldwide movement for peace with justice;
and to call on everyone to join us in this necessary work.

In this spirit, Windsor Peace Coalition invites you to join
with us in the EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION AND MARCH we have
called for this Friday to condemn the criminal US-led assault
on the population of Falluja and other cities and towns of
Iraq.

Let us show solidarity with the people under siege in this
devastated city and with those bravely defending their
homeland against the military might of the invading forces,
as is their right. And let us raise our voices as well to
demand the Canadian government break its cowardly silence
over the brazen war crimes and crimes against humanity being
committed by its "closest ally."

COME TO FRIDAY'S EMERGENCY ACTION:

WHERE: Park Street, facing the exit of the Detroit-Windsor
tunnel (east of Ouellette)
TIME: 4 pm. to 6 pm. Friday November 19

The plan is to march around the block following a period of
sidewalk picketing. Our demonstration is being held to
coincide with and support a similar emergency protest by
Americans on the Detroit side of the tunnel at the same time.
Bring flags, especially the Iraqi flag and signs as well as
flashlights or candles and noisemakers if you wish.

Group banner/sign-making will take place on Thursday at 7 pm.
behind the information desk at the CAW Student Centre,
University of Windsor Thursday night at 7 pm.
