Re: [Marxism] Admire Colin Powell - Hell No!!!
If anything Powell is MORE morally reprehensible and responsible because he
knew better (within the confines of the warped imperialist mindset, that is),
knew, that is, what the truth was, both about WMD, about the real aims behind
the war, about how much the US was hated, etc., etc. Knew more than Bush, that
is. Cheney, Rumsfeld et al. knew all that of course too, but from a bourgeois
tactical perspective they didn't care, they're willing to destroy their own
system in order to save it.
To which I say good, let them -- as long as the working class gets its act
together soon enough to build a replacement before they blow us all to Kingdom
Come.

Of course, you can decide not to give your political opponents any human
credit whatsoever, deny that they have any good intentions, and regard them
simply as "evil" human beings and so forth, but that makes any meaningful
dialogue in the framework of democratic or civil discourse impossible, and
renders understanding your political opponents impossible as well.

We are talking here, as O'Brien points out, about a militarist, an
imperialist, a man with the blood of innocent men, women and children on his
hands. His
entire life has been dedicated to the service of the US ruling class,
responsible lest we forget for most of the misery, inequality and wars in the
world
today. As a politician in the government of the most extreme, right wing and
anti-human government of any major power in modern history, he's carried on
where
he left off as a soldier, working in the interests of US corporations with
scant regard for the consequences to human life.
Given the aforementioned, what's to understand?
The day after the revolution, Colin Powell would be among the first batch to
be placed up against the wall.
