Some of the criticisms of the WCP, Iraq are totally off the wall. If you read
their documents and statements there is no shortage of a class analysis. They
were the main force that organized the Unemployed Workers Union and the
Federation of Workers Councils and Unions, whose membership, by the way is
overwhelmingly Muslim. It's fine to have political disagreements with the WCP,
but not to set up a straw man, by miscontrueing their positions. Someone else
on the list mentioned the Mujahadeen in Iran. Their move to armed struggle,
initially was in self defense, because of the attacks against them by, the
Khomenites, not to struggle for state power. That came later. Regarding
Khomeni, I was surprised that when he died, that the SWP/US didn't organize
memorial meetings for him. Maybe they did, but just didn't advertise it in the
"Militant". Back to the Mujahadeen, Iran. Yes they eventually did degenerate,
including furnishing troops to Iraq, their own armored unit, to fight against
Iran. That act in itself destroyed their credibility. The Fedayeen Minority
also oppossed the Islamic government of Iran. One of the many USFI affiliates
in Iran, the HKE, which the SWP/ US was closest do were such Khomeni suck
asses, that they actually dropped the call for Socialism from their program, in
the mid eighties. As for myself, I agree more with the WCP Iraq split off group
than with the "parent" organization. Like most of you on this list I have
concerns about their attitude toward the armed resistance. In wrapping up,
criticize when warranted, but don't trash everything they've done, including
their struggle for workers rights. I strongly disagree that the question of an
Iraqi left or labor movement has to wait until the end of the US occupation.
