[Marxism] Wars (was surplus capital)
In general, you can say that if the total economic cake is growing fast
enough, all social classes can make gains, and a "social contract" for the
good of all seems credible. But if the economic cake stops growing fast
enough, then competition intensifies, and capital can accumulate further
increasingly only by taking income away from other social classes and
nations.
Beyond certain limits, that creates resistance and social tension; also, it
creates social disintegration, unemployment and poverty. In turn, that
certainly creates the potential of a socio-economic war turning into a
military wars.
However, the internationalisation of capital ownership means that world wars
are much more problematic from the viewpoint of capital, since part of the
bourgeoisie would be attacking its own assets. Hence a more realistic
scenario is that of "localized wars" which aim to neutralize revolts in
particular countries.
