[Marxism] Bush avoiding course of ultraright [?!?!?!]
One of the best things about Marxism is the ability of
skilled practicioners to predict the course of history.
Here you will find a less-skilled practioner who fails
to appreciate the depth of anti-gay prejudice within
the United States of America. This caused the SWP (USA)
to publicly predict that Bush would NOT do PRECISELY
what Bush in fact did do. Here we see a flat-out but
totally wrong prediction as to what Bush would do.
Here in Cuba, public discussion includes acknowledge-
ment of the power of this particular prejudice, along
with the fear Bush, his supporters, and the dominant
media evoked in the wake of the Sept. 1lth attacks.
Walter Lippmann

THE MILITANT
Bush avoiding course of ultraright
---------------------------------------------------
Barnes said that despite the claims of liberals and
middle-class radicals, the Bush White House is a centrist,
not rightist, administration. It is doing everything
possible to avoid the course of the ultrarightist backers
of the "culture war." To do otherwise would mean they could
not hold together the Republican base to win in November.
With its grandstanding call for a constitutional amendment
on marriage, Barnes said by way of example, "the
administration is taking a token position on gay marriage
that can't win." There is virtually no chance that such a
constitutional amendment would be adopted, he pointed out.
