Cuba Declares National Mourning for Yasser Arafat´s Death

Havana.- Cuba declared national mourning from November 11
to 14 for the death of Palestine National Authority
President Yasser Arafat. The Cuban Council of State
declared national mourning in which the Cuban flag will be
raised to half mast in public buildings -including schools
and working centers- and military installations.

Cuba feels a deep sorrow and pain for the lost of a close
friend of the Cuban people, according to the Council of
State´s decree signed by President Fidel Castro. Arafat put
his life at the service of his people and was a leader of
prestige and unquestionable authority.

The Palestinian leader was an outstanding revolutionary
fighter as he always was in the first line of battle.
Arafat devoted his entire life trying to achieve
recognition to the rights of the Palestine people to exist
and establish their own State.

The Palestine people -under his leadership- were a symbol
of struggle for a better future and example of courage in
defense of their rights. The Cuban Foreign Minister and
Revolutionary Armed Forces will be in changed of the
fulfillment of the national mourning, the decree says.
