[Marxism] Re: Expensive oil and imperialist war

I agree that the war isn't ?about cheap oil?. I also think this article is
useful in identifying ways that a *section* of the US ruling class benefits
from expensive oil.

But other sections of the ruling class ? those who rely on large amounts of
energy, for example ? obviously benefit from cheap oil. As for the economy
as a whole, wasn?t it thrown into recession by the 1973 ?oil shock? (among
other factors)? Why is this ignored?

The trouble with the People?s Weekly World is its traditional focus on
certain sectors of the ruling class, rather than the whole class. (Related
to Popular Front type strategies.) If you do a simple string search through
the article, you will find the words Wall Street appear over and over. We
even get "Wall Street's class antagonism" -- as if the whole ruling class
lived there.

Anyway I suggest it?s not a war for cheap or expensive oil, rather it?s a
war for *strategic control* of oil (among other objectives.) Imperialism
can't be reduced to dollars and cents.
