Replying To Charlie was Re: [Marxism] Cockburn on the elections

Interestingly enough, I think it was Counterpunch article that pointed out
that Kerry's position on gay marriage was a violation of Brown vs the Board
of Education, which repudiated the "separate but equal" doctrine.

I don't really want to go into the pros and cons of
marriage. but the point is really equality. Straights can
get married, why shouldn't gays be able to do so too?

The question whether anyone at all should get married is of
course irrelevant. When Cockburn brings it up he is really
indulging in the usual old tactic of trying to make a joke
out of a serious thing. Feminists, for instance, had to
endure for years idiotic remarks about bra burning.

Refusing to take gays seriously on this issue and then even
worse blaming them for Bush's victory is simply homophobia.
That it should come from a leftist is tragic, but it is
hardly surprising.

regards

Gary
