RE: [Marxism] Re: Adios, Marxmail

Dear Mark,

1) FYI, it's DOQ (David *O*biekwe Quarter) not DCQ. 2) It was a
typo.

My poor spelling aside, are you naive enough to think that there is
NO resemblance/connection between the word "nigger" and
"niggardly"? If the word was nigg*e*rly would you then see the
resemblance?
I suppose too that negro and nigger have no connection? And
since we're on the topic of racial slurs, because Chink and Chinese
are not exactly identical structually, their connection as the one
word being the derogatory referent for the other must be arbitrary?

The other day, my teacher announced to the class, with a level of
satisfaction, that the word "Nigger" derives from the country Niger.
And since Niger isn't supposedly a derogoratory word, the meaning
that "nigger" has taken on today is quite separate. IN fact, the
term Niger (unless I'm mistaken) was not employed (initially) by
Africans, but, as with (I imagine) the term African itself, was
introduced by the colonists. I would say my teacher's suggestion is
about stupid as what you propose.

Also, did I say anything in my response to Junaid that contradicts
this:

Words don't mean the same thing to different people, so they CAN
> be used to hide meaning. >>>

???

I wasn't following the thread on "blacks" and nations so I don't
know exactly you're getting at with:

<<< I've been urging people not to get caught up in

politics.

Solidarity!
