A repudiation of Bush in the American election would have produced a
global sigh of relief. Yet Kerry did not repudiate Bush's policies, he
endorsed them. Nader, not Bush, was the Democrats' demon.
Congenitally, the Democratic Party could do nothing else.

Bush does consciously and successfully appeal to the worst in people,
with bigotry subtle and overt. The whole "charm" of the Bush public
persona is someone who has "achieved" stupidity. Yet this "stupidity"
does not make him a domestic fascist.

As far as voting for or against "class interests" here's tidbit:

When my 2 year old wants to run outside barefoot (we had frost this
morning) I will sometimes employ the parenting tactic of giving her a
"choice:" "You can pick your shoes -- look, you can wear your boots or
your sneakers -- you pick." She virtually never falls for it.
