Re: [Marxism] The Cuban people are not trying to intimidate us in the election

Fred wrote:

The Cubans are quite clearly not demanding that any pro-Cuban in the
United States follow their inclinations in the election. There is
absolutely no Cuban "intervention" or "Cominternism" on this matter.

and Louis wrote:

I don't object to the Cuban press writing articles about how much better it
would be for them if Kerry is elected

I would encourage everyone to go back and re-read the Dow-Jones article
Walter posted. Here's who's quoted in it as being "for Kerry":

o One 65-year-old textile worker, a "self-described 'militant communist'"
(one always wonders how the reporter just happened to be talking to this
person, but never mind that)
o Cuban singer Amaury Perez
o Eloy Gutierrez-Menoyo, a government opponent and former exile
o Fabio Hurtado, editor of the independent Catholic quarterly Espacios

and finally one, count them one, representative of the Cuban government,
Ricardo Alarcon, who is quoted as saying "First, one has to know what Kerry
thinks and what he will do. Given what he's said already, it seems like with
him it would be more of the same."

So I think we can dispense with the idea that "the Cubans" (by which Fred's
sentence clearly implies the Cuban government) or the "Cuban press" is
saying anything one way or the other about Kerry vs. Bush. Obviously that
doesn't mean that individual Cubans, such as the ones quoted in the article
and the ones Walter has spoken to, don't have their own private opinions.
But there isn't the slightest evidence (in this article, anyway) that there
is even any hint of an official Cuban position.
