Perhaps if you came here and could get a chance to
discuss these matters with Cubans, you might have
a better understanding of what they think, though
you said you didn't disagree with the assessment
made in the article and in my introduction to it.

I find this to be almost as meretricious as Tariq Ali's interview with
Doug Henwood, in which he enlists the entire 3rd world into the ABB
camp. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me if 99 out of 100 Cubans think
that we USA'ans should vote for Kerry. I'd rather put a bullet in my
head than pull the lever for Kerry.

Somewhere along the line principle is involved. For me, voting for Kerry
is akin to crossing a picket line. His party is the party of slavery,
genocide against the American Indian, Jim Crow, the KKK, WWI, Hiroshima,
Nagasaki, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Yugoslavia and
countless other crimes.

With all due respect to the Cuban people, the best thing for them in the
*long run* is a powerful, vibrant radical movement in the USA that can
stand up to the blockade and all the other imperialist assaults on
Venezuela, Iraq and elsewhere. We can't accomplish that if we are a tail
tied to the kite of US imperialism, flapping in the wind.

When I was in the SWP, I hated the kind of social pressure I got from
conventions when everybody got up and gave the idiot Jack Barnes a
standing ovation for speeches that I now see as a complete
embarrassment. Damned if I will kowtow to social pressure at this point
in my life, now that I am nearing the age of 60 and damned sure of the
difference between right and wrong.
