Re: [Marxism] Cubans Believe Kerry Victory Would Benefit Island Nation

I realize that this offends some of the posters to

Well, given that the only politically astute Cuban quoted in the article,
Ricardo Alarcon, had this to say - "Given what he's [Kerry] said already, it
seems like with him it would be more of the same" - I would say that the
title of your post, and the Dow-Jones article should at the least be "some
Cubans believe..."
Regardless, however, American Marxists have to base their activity on the
facts in THIS country. Calling for a vote for Kerry because some, even most,
Cubans think that Kerry would be better for them, seems to me to be like
organizing a "Negotiations Now!" demonstration during the Vietnam War. The
fact that the North Vietnamese government wanted to enter into negotiations
shouldn't have, and didn't, change the uncompromising demand of the American
left on our own government - "Out Now!." The analogy is not perfect, I
admit, but it seems to me the principle is very much the same.
I just wrote a post at Left I on the News entitled "A Stronger America,"
based on the slogan which appears on the Kerry-Edwards lawn signs which dot
my neighborhood. As I wrote there
<http://lefti.blogspot.com/2004_10_01_lefti_archive.html#109909438451077521>,
not in a million years will I vote, or encourage anyone else to vote, for
someone who believes that a "stronger America" is something desirable for
Americans or the world for that matter.
