I don't know if The Nation's letting Hitch back on board, but the fact that
they publish his endorsement of Bush as a counterpoint to David Corn's
endorsement of Kerry, rather than publishing an endorsement of Nader, is
index of the depths to which the magazine has sunk (although I'm sure the
editors would simply insist that they represent the Nader camp by publishing
Cockburn's columns, which is true enough, but the way they published
Hitchens's and Corn's pieces side by side without a pro-Nader piece seemed
an attempt to circumscribe the debate on the election in a way the NY Times
could only envy).--CP
