[Marxism] General Assembly vote on Cuba blockade 179-4-1

GENERAL ASSEMBLY VOTE ON
CUBA RESOLUTION AGAINST BLOCKADE
by Walter Lippmann, CubaNews
Havana, Cuba

We'll have the details for you later, but the vote
at the UN General Assembly on the Cuban resolution
against Washington's blockade of Cuba was:

Yes: 179
No: 4
Abstain: 1

The new vote against the resolution was Palau.
The population of Palau is something less than
20,000 (twenty thousand)

The others were the United States, Israel and
the Marshall Islands.

The government of Afghanistan voted for Cuba.

Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez-Roque's speech
was carried live here on Cuban television, as was
the speech of the U.S. delegate, whose name I do
not now have.

Washington's delegation demonstratively walked out
and Cuban television showed their empty seats at
several points during the Cuban Foreign Minister's
presentation.

After the vote, Cuban television switched to several
different scenes, a cigar factory (La Corona), a big
crowd at the Karl Marx Theater, and so on, and there
was a short interview with Perez-Roque from the UN.
