I tried to avoid any appearance of red-baiting in my public article on
MWM. But everyone on this list, and any other lists these comments may
be circulated on, should be clear that MWM was not some spontaneous
action arising from people of color in the labor movement. It was
initiated, and tightly controlled, by two principal strange bed
fellows--the Lambertist Socialist Organizer and the Marcyite Workers
World.
Well, I don't know if it is redbaiting or not, but in all candor I am
not surprised that the American Lambertistes were involved with this.
About 6 years ago, there was stuff all over the Internet about a front
organization that they had set up called "Open World Conference of
Workers". It is still around, if this website is any indication:
http://www.owcinfo.org/.
Mostly, the OWC tried to make a big splash around conferences rather
than demonstrations. They would solicit the support of some high-profile
leftish trade union officials, but there never seemed to be any real
impetus from the ranks other than from the Lambertistes, who were mostly
ex-SWP'ers who had never really figured out what was wrong with this
approach.
I had a stronger sense that the WWP was involved, needless to say.
