On that note, a beta release of Google Desktop is now available for
downloading at http://desktop.google.com/index.html.  I don't have either XP
or Windows 2000, so haven't been able to test it.  However, here's what a
friend has to say about it:

"Have spent most of this morning playing with Google's beta release of
"Google Desktop ". Forget what all the articles are saying and give it a
try.
I'm running it along with ' Firefox ' with all but it's basic search feature
blocked. This tool is marvelous. It is fast, fast, fast, fast. If for
example I want to search for a particular Email, all I need to do is type in
a key word and blam! it's in front of me as quickly as I could have opened
Outlook Express. Type in HH at the desktop and every message signed by HH is
there in crono order... Need a file? Don't know where it's hiding? bang
there it is  100 times better, faster etc. than the built in windows search.
And gives you a choice of desktop search or web search on its bar as well as
another tiny icon for the bottom of your desktop as if we need another one
of those. I rate it 97 out of 100. That's 2 MAJOR features of XP now being
handled by a third party on my machine. Fuck you bill gates..."
