Re: [Marxism] Seven Theses on the Current Period, the War and the Anti-war Movement,
You may be right about this Mohammed when you say
"I also think at least 30-40% of America's population is
hardcore pro-war, fatalists and fanatics of the religious
persuasion for whom greater disaster is only confirmation
that the war path is the correct one in a galactic struggle
and Muslim heathen- basically, these are the small idiots who
support the grand idiot, Bush."
There was a poll I recall which said a majority in the USA
were in favour of an invasion if only Arabs were killed.
That was never a likely scenario and certainly now, even
though something like 30 Arabs are being killed for every
American soldier, the war is surely destined to become deeply
and irredeemably unpopular.
Fred is right to point out that "victories" like the current
one in Samarra do not mark a significant change in the basic
situation, which is that the USA can neither afford to stay
or afford to leave.
This is a huge disaster which even the most compliant of
media will not be able to conceal for ever. The truth that
Iraq is a Vietnam type quagmire will out. And then I suspect
that the 30-40% you refer to will shrink to a hard core 10%
at best.
regards
Gary
