RE: [Marxism] Evolution of Sectarianism within Marxist Philosophy????

Two books that you might find useful are:

'A Proletarian Science: Marxism in Britain 1917-1933' by Stuart Macintyre,
Cambridge University Press, 1980

'The Origins of British Bolshevism' by Raymond Challinor, published in 1977

The 1926 General Strike was a defeat and for all the raking over of
the 'betrayal by the TUC' etc. could really have been little else. The high
point, and probably the closest Britain ever came to revolution was in 1921,
just after the formation of the CPGB.

Another key date was 1929 when the old leadership (that came out of
the British Socialist Party) of Thomas Bell and Albert Inkpin were replaced
by Harry Pollitt, Palme Dutt and the others, like Emile Burns. These would
remain until the early 1960s.

The CPGB claimed a vast rise in membership during the Second World
War but this was presumably people who 'joined' in the enthusiasm of
meetings but never really took up membership. The other claim was that
people went into the forces, which was true. What was also true was that
they never recarded when they were demobbed.

I don't know about long-term core members. There were doubtless some
of them but I don't know if any analysis has been done.

Jack Cade

I am not sure if this is the correct way to go about this, but I was
wondering if anyone could suggest some research materials and possible
venues for approaching the matter.
