Don't mean to nitpick, but under the law in western countries an
"assault" is usually when a person slaps, punches or kicks
someone else resulting in some form of bodily harm. If the recipient
of the attacks succumbs to his/her injury, the assault becomes
manslaugher, or murder. If it's premeditated it's usually considered
first degree murder.
When 80 people (most likely unarmed) are killed in a premediated
act of savagery by the most ruthless army in the world with 100s
others injured, this by any stretch of the imagination becomes, a
slaugher. And since this has been an ongoing trend in Iraq since
the commencement of the first Gulf war, resulting in the deaths of
millions of civilians, you could rightly label the above, the latest
slaugher in the ongoing genocide of the Iraqi people.
