 Of course.

For example,  I could describe myself -- and occasionally do -- in
any one all of the following combinations:

mixed race, bi-racial, "mulatto", Jewish and black, Jewish/ black
and dutch, Jewish and Afro Caribean, Jewish and Afro
Caribean, Aruban(o)/ Polish Jew/Russia Jew /Canadian, Afro-
Aruban(o)/ Polish Jew/Russia Jew/ Canadian, Afro-Aruban(o),
Polish Jew,/Russian Jew/Canadian, Neth. Antilles Afro-Aruban(o)/,
Polish Jew/ Russian Jew/ Canadian...

and so on....


If I were to influde every group to which I am to some degree
affliated, both racially and ethnically, I would be (simplified):

Racially:

(Mom's side) Black (and some white)

Dad's side:  Jewish.

Ethnically (Mom's side): Aruban, Sint Maarten, Dutch and Dutch
Antillian, Spanish Jew (and/or Portugese), Latino, and Yankee.

Dad's side: Russian, Polish, Canadian.


Previously, you weren't given a choice in our identity. You are
either/or. There was a huge investment in binaries. So, for
example, If you had pint of black "blood" in you you were "still"
considered a nigger, and treated accordingly.  Now at least
someone like myself can "choose" how to identity, although this
also depend on the individual I decide to divulge this information to.
There are still those of us not amused by hyphenated individuals
who jump ship!
