Re: [Marxism] Camejo to speak at CCNY

Mike says:
This might sound pretty simple but what exactly are we arguing about
here? Nader and Camejo are for capitalism. We are against it. Just
because Camejo WAS a marxist at one point doesn't mean anything.
What if David Horrowitz ran for president, would we be discussing
his work when he was a marxist or exposing him for what he really
is? Don't get me wrong, I think all the reformist stuff Camejo was
doing in the 60's 70's whenever is really great but from a
principaled standpoint it's clear that the Nader/Camejo ticket is
not working or claiming to represent the interests of the working
class first and foremost and furthermore are not espousing anything
even semi-revolutionary. Nader/Camejo are presenting a
counterposition to the two party system? Big deal. So are alot of
other little third parties out there, including the SWP, Socialist
Equality Party why aren't we debating about their presidential
campaigns?

Because the socialist sects' rhetoric -- even when their analysis is
sound -- prevents them from building a broad foundation for a mass
political party of *millions* of workers and our allies. The
platform of the Nader/Camejo campaign
<http://votenader.org/issues/index_home.php> more or less coincides
with the demands of the Million Worker March
<http://www.millionworkermarch.org/article.php?id=28#dem>. That's
the right set of demands at this point in the United States. If
socialists can't get *millions* of workers and our allies *actively
involved* in a campaign for the sort of demands advanced by
Nader/Camejo and the Million Worker March, it is obvious we can't win
them to socialism either.

BTW, I'd at least take a second look at socialist sects if they
manage to abandon the futile idea of each sect promoting its own
ticket in *competition* with others and if all socialist sects (the
SWP, the SEP, the WW, etc.) unite to present a united socialist
ticket or something like that, but I doubt that they will.

Socialists need to develop the spirit of productive cooperation,
rather than pointless competition.
