Re: [Marxism] Camejo to speak at CCNY

Oh, this sounds so ... r-r-r-revolutionary. But I don't need lectures from
you about the consciousness of working people. I do most of my political
work in an undocumented immigrant movement in Atlanta. The approach to the
work that you propose is raving ultraleft lunacy.
Well you obviously do need lectures from me, as you maintain support for a
man who spends the bulk of his time giving talks on university campuses rather
than in oppressed communities...just like any career politician would. You
maintain that you do most of your work in an undocumented movement in Atlanta.
Good for you. I only hope you don't approach that work in the same condescending
manner with which you address your comments on this list. As to your
astoundingly ignorant 'ultraleft lunacy' comment, this reminds me of the
Thatcherite
campaign in Britain during the 1980's in which the Tories successfully managed
to discredit key figures on the left - Tony Benn, Ken Livingstone, etc.- by
referring to them collectively as the 'loony left.'

I've noticed there are quite a few on the list who go back to the sixties and
seventies politically. I've also come into personal contact with many from
that generation since arriving in the States a few years ago. They all seem to
have the same characteristic in common: namely that they are so used to being
defeated and marginalised they seem ashamed to even admit that they are
marxists or socialists now, never mind that they stand for a society in which
the
working class comes to power through revolution.

As I said at the beginning of this thread, the Camejo I read in his
introduction to Trotsky's Permanent Revolution back in 1969 is not the same
Camejo I've
listened to and read recently.

And if ultraleft lunacy means that I advocate the advance of the working
class and oppressed peoples, then I am definitely that.

The question is, comrade: what are you?
