[Marxism] Michael Moore Rekindles his Bush-bashing Campaign
Michael Moore Rekindles his Bush-bashing Campaign
New York, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) US filmmaker Michael Moore
will bring new energy to his campaign against US President
George W. Bush´s reelection, with a 20-State tour aimed to
wake non-voters and slackers up.
Filmed for the documentary Slacker Uprising Tour, his
60-city tour, to start Sunday in his home state, Michigan,
will end November 2 (Election Day,) in Tallahassee,
Florida, he stated for the press Friday.
"I am calling for a non-voter uprising, led by thousands of
campus slackers who proudly sleep 'til noon and who believe
papers are for rolling, not reading," he said.
Moore´s crusade is designed as a traveling tribune, to be
raised in University campus and arenas.
During his show, Moore will read letters he's received from
soldiers in Iraq, offer prizes for people who register to
vote, and conduct the "world's largest karaoke sing-a-long"
to John Ashcroft's "Let the Eagle Soar."
He will also present a few special guests, unrevealed
surprises until the last minute.
Moore said his goal is to see that over 56% of the voting
public votes in this election -- something that has not
happened since 1968. With a number of venues already sold
out, over 600,000 people are expected to show up on his
tour.
Fahrenheit 9/11, his acid anti-Bush film, was a bullseye
shot against W. Bush´s reelection campaign, and
destabilizes him like the day his questions led him to
shout, off-camera: "Get a real job."
Unanimously voted Palm d´Or winner at the latest Cannes
cinema festival in May, by a jury presided by US
cinematographer Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction) and
including other three US members, Fahrenheit 9/11 has made
an undeniable impact in international public opinion.
The information Moore´s film provides convincingly revealed
how the media are manipulated in the US, independent
filmmaker John Sayles stated Thursday in San Sebastian Film
Festival (Spain).
The information was there all the time, available, but the
press did not work to investigate it, he stated. There is a
huge lack of dialogue in my country, and that is very bad.
Not long ago people not even dared to criticize the
government, Sayles stated.
The announcement on Moore´s tour had an immediate
repercussion in the media, to the point of leading Karen
Haynes, dean from the University of San Marcos, California,
to veto the artist´s presentation under the argument that
it was illegal to use federal funds for a political
activity of this type.
But a student organization in this State-sponsored
University won after a heated debate and took
responsibility on the organization of the show. We are very
happy with Moore´s visit on October 12, as it was planned,
the association spokesperson Sarah Leonard stated.
