Re: [Marxism] Re: Marx and Engels and the National Question
Lüko has striken on red iron, methinks.
If we want to understand what was M&E's standing re: the national
qustion, wouldn't it be interesting to understand what did they do in
the only national question where they had not only a _saying_ but a
_doing_, that is the German national question?
Franz Mehring's bio of Karl Marx traces the whole history to its
roots, and gives a very interesting account of the differences
between Lassalle and Marx, and what happened with them when,
unexpectedly to M&E, it was Bismark who put an end to the issue.
It is noteworthy enough, for a Marxist, that on this national
question, the only one they lived _from within_, they understood the
revolutionary consequences of Bismark's actions, and not only in
1870, also in 1866 (Sadowa, etc.). A clever reading of their
correspondence of these times, and also of Marx's letters to
Kugelmann, offers most interesting insights.
