There were other issues besides the women's issue to be sure. What is true is that the reactionary back lash began against the Afghan reformers, even before the introduction of foreign troops. The reforms by this government were from the top , without enough for lack of a better term, "grass roots" support. While the women's issue wasn't the only thing angering the reactionaries, it does seem to be, from their perspective, the last straw. The problem with the Soviet intervention, once foreign troops are introduced, everything changes. That becomes the issue. Again, in the interest of brevity, and band space, I'm over simplifying. Like Louis, I would like to see an analysis other than the two extreme perspectives he alluded to.
