Kaplan's suggestion reminds us that truly stupid ideas get into print or
on the air nowadays.  He has not only compared apples and oranges, but
wants to make an omelet with them.

Setting aside the despicable brutality of Kaplan's proposal, why would
you even consider using on the Iraqis the tactics the US Cavalry
employed against the Indians unless your goal is removal of the native
Iraqis to a reservation and repopulating the state with transplanted
whites.

Then, too, in this case, the disparity of population favors the Iraqis
not the Cavalry--and the technological disparity isn't that big.  ...
When that happened in the history of the American West where a similar
balance of forces worked out on a local scale, it didn't work out so
well for the U.S. Cavalry.  "Mr. Kaplan, may I introduce you to General
Custer?"
