It's a very interesting question, Louis.
What we're seeing seems to me to be a globalized variation of the use of
protecting womanhood/motherhood as a tool of the slaveholders and the
Indian removers.
Speaking of Indians, there's a grizzly op-ed piece in the Wall Street
Journal today (is there ever anything else) by Robert Kaplan that urges
the US army to adopt the tactics of the cavalry in the 19th century
against American Indians. Basically, he says that it would be wise to
keep the media away from the action thereby replicating the frontier
framework when Indians could be murdered in cold blood. Out of sight;
out of mind. This supposedly will work wonders in Fallujah. Maybe Walter
Lippmann can send the item on to the list. He has a sub.
