RE: [Marxism] Norman Cantor
My most memorable recollection of Norman Cantor was from after he had
entered administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In the
late 1970s, he issued a remarkably condescending memo warning faculty
that he had gotten complaints from the parents of students that their
professors were dressing like "urban guerrillas."
His instructions were that coat, clean white shirt and a nice tie
constituted proper faculty attire. The next day, a number of the female
faculty members dressed up just as he directed.
We got no further memos.
Solidarity!
Mark L.
