>>If Jesse Jackson took his own words seriously re the electoral fraud in
Florida in 2000 why wasn't he busy leading a mass movement in the streets
against the Supreme Court's handing the electoral prerogative over to a
neo-Jim Crow State apparatus?<<
Actually Jesse Jackson did respond vigorously and sharply to the Florida
election scandal, and not a month later, when the Supreme Court took up the
case, but immediately after the elections. He was the first person to focus
attention on the disenfranchisement of Black voters and talked to whoever he
could about it. He also led some protests.
However, the Gore camp basically shut him down. They said this was their
fight and Jackson should butt out. I do not know how realistic it would have
been for him to keep trying to develop the campaign he was trying to mount
in face of Gore's opposition, which was also the opposition of the
overwhelming majority of Black political leaders.
At any rate, your pot shots at Jackson on this point are quite thoroughly
off the mark.
Joaquín
