Same thing Jackson did in the 1980s after the first Green Party got off the
ground in 1980. (it was called the Citizen's Party and ran Barry Commoner
for president.) Jackson expropriated the name Rainbow Coalition from Mel
King's group in Boston and went about trying to get folks back into the
Democratic Party. It worked with the help of the Committees of
Correspondence (and others). Prevented the formation of an alternative
political party for 12 years or so until Nader hooked up with the Green
Parties of the 1990s. Some of the same forces that followed Jackson back
into the Democratic Party in 1984, worked to deny Nader the Green nomination
in 2004 using the 'safe states' strategy as the poison pill Nader couldn't
swallow to get Green backing which begot Cobb as the Green candidate.
